Subject: Kflop not starting
Hi Tom, i´m having a trouble with kflop board. A year ago i bought a kflop (rev 1.3) + kanalog (ver 1.0)  boards, till yesterday everything was great. Today when i turn on the machine, the kflop board won´t start. I check the power supply and it is good (5 volts). None of the leds in the board turn on nor blink. Besides changing the board, is there something i may try? The supply was done via the computer style connector, i already change it to usb supply, but it does the same (nothing). I will buy another board, but i need (if possible) working it today. Maybe there is a passive component dammaged and i can "fix it"?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Federico,

Sorry to hear that.

Have you tried disconnecting everything from KFLOP except +5V power. Do
the LEDs blink in that case?

If not and the +5V is good then KFLOP is most likely damaged. There
isn't likely to be an easy fix.

Yes, have already test all. Will buy a new one. I'm wondering if the usual way i power up/down the machine can be related, to change and not to blow the new one. Usually the PC is kept on, as the machine is used every day, so the usb connection is powered, but the power supply to the Kflop board is turned off. Can this be the cause of damage? The power supply (5 volts) is the original from mazak machine, it is connected directly, what kind of protection can i use? Can the new board be flashed with the same firmware version i am using? (pc with xp).
Thanks!

Hi Federico,

I wouldn't expect a problem to have KFLOP power off with live USB connected.

You should have the USB Power Jumper J3 removed when powering externally.

Is the +5V supply isolated?  If KFLOP/Kanalog DC GND is connected to Earth Ground that has large + or - voltage spikes that could cause damage.

I'm not aware of any techniques to protect boards if you don't know the source of the problem.

You should be able to Flash older Firmware into the board if necessary.
